Questions

Transposing, explained.

Why do clarinet and trumpet parts need transposing?

B♭ instruments sound a major second lower than written. For a piece to sound right at concert pitch, the part has to be written a major second higher — that's exactly what the "B♭ clarinet / trumpet" button does.

Which interval for which instrument?

B♭ instruments (clarinet, trumpet, tenor sax): up a major second. E♭ instruments (alto sax, E♭ clarinet): up a major sixth. Horn in F: up a perfect fifth. For anything else, pick the interval freely.

Does the key signature move too?

Yes. The key signature is transposed along (C major becomes D major when you go up a major second), and every note is respelled to fit the new key. Rhythm, slurs and dynamics stay untouched.

Can I keep editing the result?

Yes — the MusicXML download opens in MuseScore (free), Sibelius, Dorico or Finale. Recognition is beta: please double-check any measures the ledger flags.
