Trumpet transposition
Concert pitch in, trumpet part out.
The B♭ trumpet sounds a major second lower than written. To play a part in concert pitch — for piano, voice or violin — every note moves up a major second; orchestral parts for trumpet in C, D or E♭ move by their own interval. Below are the charts for every note and key. Or photograph the part and download it transposed for your trumpet.

Orchestral parts are written for trumpets in many keys. On a B♭ trumpet, every such part moves by the interval between its key and B♭.

|---|---|---|
| Trumpet in C | as written | major second ↑ |
| Trumpet in D | a major second higher | major third ↑ |

| Horn in F | a perfect fifth lower | perfect fourth ↓ |

Questions
Trumpet transposition, briefly.
How do I transpose for B♭ trumpet?
Move every note of the concert-pitch part up a major second and add two sharps to the key signature (or take away two flats): concert B♭ major becomes C major. In neumascan, pick “B♭ trumpet / flugelhorn” under Transpose.
How do I transpose piano music for trumpet?
Piano music is in concert pitch, so the melody also moves up a major second. neumascan transposes every staff of a piano score together — it doesn’t yet take the melody out of the piano part on its own. If the melody has a staff of its own, as in a song for voice and piano, you can play it from the transposed score.
How do I transpose trumpet to concert pitch?
The other way round: every note of the B♭ part down a major second, two sharps fewer in the key signature. In neumascan, choose “major second ↓”.
How do I read a C trumpet part on a B♭ trumpet?
A part for trumpet in C is in concert pitch, so it moves up a major second — exactly what “B♭ trumpet / flugelhorn” does in neumascan. Parts in D go up a major third, parts in E♭ up a perfect fourth.
Do cornet and flugelhorn transpose the same way?
Yes. Cornet and flugelhorn in B♭ sound a major second lower than written, just like the B♭ trumpet — the same chart applies.
